Morocco maintain perfect start to Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying with easy win over Lesotho

Morocco made it two wins from two in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers as they beat Lesotho 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Atlas Lions dominated from the start and controlled the tempo throughout, creating enough opportunities to have won by a considerably wider margin. Lesotho offered little in response and struggled to match Morocco’s quality, with the hosts unable to build sustained pressure or seriously threaten their opponents.

Morocco took the lead just before half-time when Brahim Diaz finished in the 45th minute. A through ball found Nail El Aynaoui inside the Lesotho penalty area, but a mistake by the home defence allowed the ball to reach Diaz. The forward made no mistake from close range, placing his finish into the net to give Morocco the advantage.

The visitors continued to dictate the match after the interval, keeping possession and maintaining control as Lesotho remained largely on the defensive.

Their pressure eventually produced a second goal in the 82nd minute. Sofiane Rahimi sent a low cross into the area, and Azzedine Ounahi met it first time to put the ball into the net and secure Morocco’s victory.

The result leaves Morocco top of their group with six points after two consecutive wins. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Gabon in the first round.

Lesotho, meanwhile, remain without a point at the bottom of the table. They began the qualifying campaign with a 2-1 defeat by Niger before suffering another loss against Morocco.
