Hamburg suffer Albert Gronbaek injury setback after Denmark appearance

Hamburg midfielder Albert Gronbaek will miss Denmark’s next Nations League fixtures after suffering a torn muscle in his right thigh.

The 25-year-old former Rennes player was injured during Denmark’s 3-2 Nations League defeat by Norway. He had started the match on the substitutes’ bench and came on in the 82nd minute to replace Mikkel Damsgaard, but was unable to finish the game.

Gronbaek is expected to be unavailable for Denmark’s next two Nations League games against Wales and Portugal next week.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed the injury to Bold, saying: “He’s injured and will leave the camp.”

Gronbaek has returned to Hamburg, where an MRI scan confirmed the muscle tear in his right thigh.

The injury is a setback for Hamburg after Gronbaek made a strong start to the campaign. He has scored two goals and provided two assists in five appearances across all competitions this season.

Gronbaek joined Hamburg after previously playing for Rennes and has established himself as an important attacking option during the opening weeks of the campaign.
