Pitso Mosimane urges South Africa fans to fill stadiums after Guinea win

Pitso Mosimane has urged South Africa supporters to attend Bafana Bafana matches in greater numbers after beginning his second spell as head coach with a 2-1 victory over Guinea.

The win came in South Africa’s opening qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, but the match at the Orlando Amstel Arena was not played in front of a full stadium.

Mosimane contrasted that attendance with the support shown to the Springboks during their last three home matches at Ellis Park, FNB Stadium and Cape Town Stadium.

The coach attended the Springboks’ match against New Zealand before returning to lead Bafana Bafana, and said football supporters needed to show similar commitment to the national team.

“You know, I went to Rugby last week to see the Bokke against New Zealand,” Mosimane told SABC Sport after the match.

“Come on guys, help us, help Bafana, come to the stadium guys, let’s get behind the nation, we were trying our best.

“Come South Africa help us.”

Mosimane’s side will now travel to Egypt for their second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, against Eritrea.
