Arsenal await Kai Havertz scan after Germany injury

Kai Havertz is an injury concern for Arsenal after being forced off during Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, Jurgen Klopp’s first match as the national team’s manager.

The Arsenal forward played for only 30 minutes before being replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib. Havertz appeared to suffer a hamstring injury after a heavy challenge from Dutch midfielder Quinten Timber.

Timber is the brother of Havertz’s Arsenal team-mate Jurrien Timber.

Havertz initially attempted to continue, but soon indicated discomfort at the back of his thigh and was eventually taken off.

Germany also lost Jamal Musiala before kick-off after he suffered a thigh problem during the warm-up. Klopp confirmed after the match that both players would have MRI scans.

“Both will undergo MRI scans tonight and then we’ll have the diagnoses,” Klopp said.

“They’re probably out for us, but I hope they’ll be back soon (for their clubs).”

The injuries are an early concern for Klopp on his international debut and could also have consequences for Arsenal, with Havertz expected to return to club duty once the international break is over.

Arsenal are due to host Leeds in the Premier League on October 10. The club will now wait for the results of Havertz’s scan to establish whether he will be available for that fixture.
