Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to miss around two months after knee operation

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to be out for about two months after undergoing surgery on his right knee, Deportivo La Coruna have confirmed.

The 37-year-old striker had an operation on his meniscus at a clinic in Madrid on Thursday. He reported discomfort during Deportivo’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Sunday, prompting further assessment before the procedure.

Aubameyang will now return to La Coruna, where he will begin his rehabilitation. Deportivo said the timing of his return to training would depend on how he progresses during his recovery.

“His progress will determine when he returns to training,” the club said in a statement.

The injury is a major setback for Deportivo, who have made an impressive start to life back in La Liga after winning promotion. Aubameyang has been central to that early success, scoring five of the club’s 10 league goals this season.

Those goals have helped Deportivo collect 10 points from their opening seven matches and climb to seventh in the La Liga table. His absence leaves the club without their leading contributor in front of goal as they continue their return to the top flight.

Aubameyang is also Gabon’s all-time leading scorer. However, he recently stepped away from international football after saying he felt “humiliated” when the Gabonese government singled him out following the country’s disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

His immediate priority will now be recovering from the operation and working towards a return for Deportivo. The club’s next La Liga fixture is away to Real Sociedad at Anoeta on Sunday, October 11.
