Mamelodi Sundowns complete Deadline Day deal for AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube

Mamelodi Sundowns completed the signing of AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube before the PSL transfer window closed at midnight on Monday.

The 22-year-old left-footed centre-back travelled to Johannesburg for a medical after the two clubs entered negotiations over a possible Deadline Day move. Following lengthy discussions on Monday evening, the transfer was finalised.

Dube joins Mamelodi Sundowns on an initial three-year contract in a straight transfer from AmaZulu. Although he has had limited playing time in the Betway Premiership, the move reflects Sundowns’ confidence in his long-term potential.

The defender is regarded as one of the most promising players in his position to have emerged in South Africa. He operates primarily as a left centre-back but can also play at left-back, giving head coach Miguel Cardoso an additional option in defence.

Dube was promoted from the AmaZulu DStv Diski Challenge squad at the start of the 2025/26 season. He went on to make 10 appearances for an AmaZulu side that finished fourth in the Betway Premiership standings.

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has previously described Dube as “a rare breed”, while also warning that the youngster should not be placed under excessive pressure at the beginning of the campaign.

AmaZulu have continued their strong form from last season and occupied fourth position at the time of the first FIFA International break.

Dube becomes Mamelodi Sundowns’ seventh signing of the transfer window. The Brazilians had already added Antonio Van Wyk, Deano Van Rooyen, Cassius Mailula, Thabo Cele, Thabang Matuludi and Siyanda Ndlovu to a squad heavily involved in international football.

His arrival is part of Cardoso’s ongoing work to reshape the team as Sundowns prepare to manage the demands of competing on multiple fronts.
