Mofokeng’s fast start at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise continues with first assist

Relebohile Mofokeng continued his impressive beginning to life at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise by providing his first assist of the season in a 2-0 victory at Royal Antwerp.

The 21-year-old made his third consecutive start for the Jupiler Pro League side and again played an important role as David Hubert’s team returned to the top of the table.

After scoring his first Europa League goal on Thursday, Mofokeng created USG’s opening goal in the 51st minute. His pass set up Mateo Biondic, who put the visitors ahead at Royal Antwerp.

Mofokeng was replaced after 64 minutes, continuing a pattern that has seen Hubert take him off during his recent appearances.

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise doubled their advantage in the 78th minute when Denzel De Rove scored. Royal Antwerp were reduced to 10 men after Bahmed Deuff was sent off in the 69th minute.

The result moved USG back to the summit with 19 points from seven games. They are level on points with Gent, but lead the table on goal difference, with a mark of +18 compared with Gent’s +9.

Mofokeng has now contributed to five goals in nine appearances since joining his new club, scoring four times and providing one assist. Three of those goals, along with Saturday’s assist, have come in his past four matches.
