Jamal Musiala completes 90 minutes as Bayern Munich forward continues comeback

Jamal Musiala took another significant step towards full fitness by scoring and completing the entire match in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 Bundesliga victory over Union Berlin.

The Germany international opened the scoring at the Allianz Arena with his first league goal of the season, before remaining on the pitch for all 90 minutes.

It was only the second time Musiala had started and finished a match since the beginning of last season. The 23-year-old said the achievement had given him confidence as he continues to rebuild his sharpness and match fitness.

“I managed to play 90 minutes, which I haven’t done for some time. I’m looking forward to what’s coming,” Musiala said after the game.

His previous Bundesliga goal at the Allianz Arena came six months ago, when he scored in Bayern Munich’s 4-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. That match had also been the last occasion on which he played from the opening whistle through to the final one in the league.

Musiala believes regular appearances are gradually bringing him closer to his best level, with each game providing another test of his physical condition.

“Every win and every game needs a lot of hard work and energy. I feel so good. Every game is a step forward for me,” he said.

The midfielder also opened his post-match interview with a joke after reporters had initially expected Bayern team-mate Michael Olise to be the player appearing before them.

Bayern’s emphatic victory provided Musiala with the ideal platform to build on his latest performance, although his immediate focus will now shift from club football to international duty.

He is set to join Germany for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece. Those matches will offer Musiala further opportunities to continue his return to full fitness after his latest club appearance.
