Mamelodi Sundowns face Al Ahli in Intercontinental Cup battle

African champions Mamelodi Sundowns will meet Asian champions Al Ahli in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon.

The match takes place on 19 September 2026, with both sides competing in a tournament which began in 2024 and brings together the reigning domestic champions of FIFA’s six confederations.

Mamelodi Sundowns qualified after winning the CAF Champions League last campaign. The competition is made up of single-match ties, while European champions Paris Saint-Germain have been given a bye in the first round.

Miguel Cardoso’s side have had a full week to prepare for the fixture. They go into it after drawing 1-1 with Chippa United last weekend.

Al Ahli’s Saudi Pro League campaign has produced four victories from their opening seven fixtures.
