Carlos Baleba is desperate to get back as quickly as possible - Michael Carrick

Carlos Baleba is pushing for a place in Manchester United’s squad for Sunday’s trip to Fulham as he continues his recovery from a calf problem.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international joined United from Brighton in August but has yet to make his debut. His injury also ruled him out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with his former club, a match United eventually lost 3-2 after surrendering a two-goal lead.

Michael Carrick says Baleba has trained during the week and is eager to become involved with his new teammates.

“Everyone is up and running,” Carrick told MUTV. “Over the last week or so, pretty much everyone has played and been fit, and we’re trying to get Carlos back in.”

The interim manager added that Baleba is “bouncing around the place” and described him as a player who is keen to make an immediate impression. Carrick also praised the midfielder’s attitude while adapting to a new club and training environment.

“It’s not always easy when you come into a new club and you’re not fully integrated into the group yet,” he said. “But he’s handled it really well. He’s got a big personality and is desperate to get back as quickly as possible.”
