Al Ahly contacted Al Ittihad Alexandria over Mostafa Ibrahim before transfer deadline

Al Ahly contacted Al Ittihad Alexandria to ask about signing defender Mostafa Ibrahim shortly before the Egyptian Premier League’s summer transfer window closed, the club’s sporting director Mohamed Adel Sadek has revealed.

The summer transfer window in the Egyptian Premier League closed on 15 August.

“There was contact from Al Ahly about signing Mostafa Ibrahim during the last summer transfer window, specifically two days before registration closed,” Mohamed Adel Sadek said on Modern Channel.

“But after Youssef Belamri suffered an injury, Al Ahly turned its attention to strengthening other positions.”

Mostafa Ibrahim remained with Al Ittihad Alexandria, where he has been described by Sadek as an important and professional player.

“Mostafa Ibrahim is one of the outstanding players and has a very professional attitude,” he added. “I respect him personally because he has a strong mentality and knows exactly what he wants.”

Sadek also explained why Afsha did not remain with Al Ittihad Alexandria, after spending time at the club.

“Afsha did not continue with Al Ittihad because his name was not being considered for departure from Al Ahly this season,” he said.

The sporting director also discussed the development of Anas Wael, who joined Al Ittihad Alexandria shortly after ending his contract with Zamalek.

“Anas Wael is a young player and still has a great deal to offer,” Sadek said. “We signed him just a few hours after he ended his contract with Zamalek because we know his abilities well.

“I believe he needs more time. He should not be put under pressure through social media, nor should there be any rush in bringing him into the team. We sign players for the future.”

Al Ittihad Alexandria strengthened their position in the league with a 2-0 victory over Al Masry in round five.

The result was their third consecutive league win, following a draw and a defeat in their opening two matches.

Al Ittihad Alexandria moved on to 10 points and sit sixth in the table, level on goal difference with Zamalek and Modern Sport, who occupy fourth and fifth place respectively.

Al Masry remain on six points in 10th place after suffering their third successive defeat.
