Samuel Asamoah joins Chindia as Togo and Belgium midfielder returns to Romania

Samuel Asamoah has joined Romanian club Chindia as a free agent, giving the Liga 2 side an experienced defensive midfielder with a career spent across Belgium, Romania and China.

The 32-year-old, who holds Togo and Belgian nationality, completed the move on 18 September 2026 after leaving Chinese club GX Pingguo earlier this year. Chindia’s new arrival is listed as a defensive midfielder and prefers his right foot.

Asamoah’s most recent club was GX Pingguo, where he played after joining from fellow Chinese side QD Red Lions in February 2025. That move was also completed without a transfer fee. He later became a free agent in February 2026 before agreeing to continue his career with Chindia.

The switch brings Asamoah back to Romania, where he previously represented FC U Craiova. His record in the country includes 58 appearances in the SuperLiga, with one goal and four assists, as well as 16 appearances in the SuperLiga relegation group, where he registered two assists. He also made seven appearances in the Romanian Cup.

Before moving to China, Asamoah spent three seasons with FC U Craiova after joining from Belgian side Sint-Truiden in July 2021. He made 111 Jupiler Pro League appearances during his career, scoring six goals and providing five assists, and added 93 appearances in the Challenger Pro League.

His time in Belgium also included spells with Sint-Truiden, KAS Eupen and OH Leuven. He joined Sint-Truiden from KAS Eupen in July 2017, having previously spent time with Eupen’s under-21 side. Earlier in his career, he moved from KAS Eupen to OH Leuven on loan before returning to Eupen at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Asamoah has also played in the English League One, recording 47 appearances, four goals and eight assists. His career statistics include domestic cup appearances in Belgium, Romania and China, along with three appearances in the Viareggio Cup.

Born in Accra on 23 March 1994, Asamoah stands 1.66 metres tall and joins Chindia with experience of both Romanian league divisions. The move to the Targoviste-based club was completed on 18 September 2026.
