Calls grow for Mohammed Salah Egypt coacjing role

Former Al Ahly planning committee chairman, Mohsen Saleh, has backed Mohamed Salah for a temporary Egypt coaching role ahead of AFCON qualifiers.

The Pharaohs will be without head coach Hossam Hassan for the November qualifiers following FIFA ban

Taking to his official X account, Saleh argued that Salah could step into the technical leadership role for Egypt’s next three matches, citing the limited time available to make changes ahead of the team’s upcoming assignments.

“Salah is the interim technical director of the Egyptian national team, due to the limited time, and he is the most suitable to lead the team in the next three matches,” Saleh wrote.

He further defended his suggestion by pointing to several prominent football figures who combined playing and leadership responsibilities during their careers.

“Salah has the personal and technical attributes to do the job, and there are examples of stars who combined playing and leadership: Dalglish (Liverpool), Gullit and Vialli (Chelsea), Giggs (Man United), George Weah (Liberia),” he added.

Although Saleh’s comments have generated an unusual proposal for Egypt’s technical direction, there has been no official announcement regarding a change in the national team’s coaching position.

Egypt are scheduled to face Malawi in the third and fourth rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers during the November international break.

The Pharaohs will host Malawi in Cairo on November 13 before travelling for the return encounter on November 17 as they continue their quest to secure qualification for the continental tournament.
