Kaizer Chiefs leave door open for late transfer move

Kaizer Chiefs could still make a signing before the transfer window closes, although coach Fernando Da Cruz says he is satisfied with the squad available to him.

The club have added Thabo Moloisane, Langelihle Phili, Renaldo Leaner and Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko during the current window.

Attacker Faiz Abrahams has also arrived on loan from Stellenbosch FC, while Khanyisa Mayo has joined on a permanent deal after spending last season at the club on loan.

With the window due to close early next week, Chiefs appear to have completed most of their recruitment as the new season continues. Da Cruz, however, says the club would consider another addition if the right opportunity became available.

“No, I am happy about the squad. If there is one big opportunity, maybe we will take it, but I do not want to take a player just for taking a player,” Da Cruz said.

“If it is to take someone, it is someone who will be useful to us. So, for the moment, I am happy about that.”

Da Cruz was speaking after Chiefs’ result against Polokwane City, a match which left him disappointed, although he believes the team are progressing in their efforts to integrate new players into his style of play.

“We are disappointed about the results today [against Polokwane City], but I think also that we are on the good way about the adaptation of the player with our model game,” he said.

The transfer window closes in just over a week, leaving Chiefs with the choice of making a late move or continuing with the squad currently at Da Cruz’s disposal.

The Glamour Boys have therefore kept their recruitment plans measured, with the coach making clear that any further signing would need to provide a specific benefit rather than simply increase the size of the squad.
