Polokwane City coach Willy Moloto resigns to prioritise his health

Willy Moloto has resigned as Polokwane City coach after spending almost two months away from the team because of health problems.

Moloto confirmed his decision to Soccer Laduma, saying he had chosen to put the club first while concentrating on his recovery.

“Yes, I have resigned,” Moloto told Soccer Laduma.

He added: “I have decided to put the team first. I’ve been away from the team for almost two months now. So, I just need to focus on my health. I am okay. Remember, after the game of Siwelele, I went to the doctor and they booked me off for 10 days. So, I am strong now.”

The coach has faced health challenges over the past two months and spent time in hospital. He is also reported to have collapsed after Polokwane City’s Betway Premiership match against AmaZulu in September.

Mkhuseli Sentane has taken charge from the bench whenever Moloto has been unavailable and is expected to remain as interim coach while Polokwane City search for a permanent replacement.

The upcoming international break will give Rise and Shine an opportunity to work on appointing a coach to guide the side for the remainder of the season.

Moloto became Polokwane City coach before the start of the current campaign, replacing Phuti Mohafe. Mohafe left Rise and Shine to join Marumo Gallants, although he has since parted ways with that club.

Before moving to Polokwane City, Moloto worked as assistant coach at University of Pretoria. He left that position at the end of last season before taking up the head coach role with Rise and Shine.

Polokwane City are currently 11th in the Premiership table.
