Willy Moloto identifies Kaizer Chiefs weakness after Polokwane City fightback

Polokwane City coach Willy Moloto says his team targeted the lack of pace in Kaizer Chiefs’ defence as they recovered from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Chiefs led at half-time, but the home side increased the intensity after the break and eventually secured an equaliser in the later stages of the match.

Moloto said he used the interval to remind his players of the attacking patterns they had worked on during the week, while urging them to put the Amakhosi defence under sustained pressure.

“No, at half time, I just went there and encouraged them, and showed them what is it that we need to do,” Moloto told the media.

“I encouraged them to say, remember the patterns that we are doing during the week, this is something that could work for us.”

The Polokwane City coach believed his side could exploit the pace of Chiefs’ full-backs and defenders, particularly if they forced them to defend continuously.

“We came back stronger, we know that their full-backs, they are too slow, their defenders are too slow, and if you put them under pressure, they lose concentration,” he said.

“So it’s something that I say, let’s keep on putting more pressure on them, let’s put the ball more on their half, then they will open up, and they usually open up.”

The result left Polokwane City eighth in the table after six games. Rise and Shine will now prepare for another home fixture, against AmaZulu on Saturday.
