Jordan Ayew showed his experience and quality against Wolves – Chris Wilder
Chris Wilder has praised Jordan Ayew for displaying his experience and quality during his Sheffield United debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ayew made his first appearance for the Blades on Sunday after joining the Championship club as a free agent following his departure from Leicester City.
The Ghana captain started the match on the bench before Wilder introduced him in the second half as Sheffield United sought to break down a disciplined Wolves defence.
Ayew immediately offered an attacking threat and registered an effort shortly after entering the game.
Sheffield United had competed strongly against Wolves and looked capable of securing a point before Raúl Jiménez struck in the 90th minute to give the visitors victory.
Despite the late disappointment, Wilder was encouraged by Ayew’s contribution and believes the veteran forward will benefit from his first minutes with the club.
“He showed his experience. He showed his quality. He showed his attitude, and Jordan will be better for that.”
Ayew joined Sheffield United after Leicester City’s decision not to extend his contract, bringing considerable experience to Wilder’s squad.
The 35-year-old has played for several clubs across France and England, including Marseille, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester.
He has also been a key figure for Ghana for more than a decade and is the Black Stars’ captain.
Wilder will hope Ayew’s experience can prove valuable as Sheffield United continue their push for success in the Championship.
