Nigeria thrash New Caledonia 10-1 to reach Women’s U20 World Cup knockout stage

Nigeria secured a place in the last 16 of the Women’s U20 World Cup with a resounding 10-1 victory over New Caledonia on Sunday, 13 September 2026.

The Falconets dominated the final group-stage match, scoring four times before half-time and extending their advantage after the interval. The result confirmed their qualification for the knockout phase in emphatic fashion.

Kareem led the early charge with a hat-trick. She converted a penalty in the 17th minute before adding another goal 10 minutes later, and completed her treble in the 64th minute.

David, who came on at half-time, was also central to Nigeria’s attacking display. The forward scored four times, with her goals recorded in the 60th, 75th and fourth minute of added time.

Nigeria’s total included three further goals, as the West African side completely overwhelmed their opponents and underlined their ambitions for the remainder of the tournament.

New Caledonia did manage a landmark moment before the final whistle. Kourevi scored in the 89th minute to give the young Oceanian side their first goal in a World Cup.

Despite the heavy defeat, that historic strike gave New Caledonia a notable achievement as they ended their involvement in the competition.
