Mamelodi Sundowns complete signing of Bafana Bafana defender Thabang Matuludi

Mamelodi Sundowns have signed Bafana Bafana right-back Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City.

The African champions secured the 27-year-old’s services after reportedly competing with Orlando Pirates for his signature. Sundowns confirmed the move on Friday afternoon, announcing Matuludi’s arrival at Chloorkop.

Matuludi was part of the Bafana Bafana squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Americas and is regarded as one of the best attacking full-backs in the South African top flight.

He made 72 appearances for Polokwane City, scoring six goals and providing two assists in the top flight. The defender joined the club five years ago from amateur side The Dolphins, when Polokwane were competing in the second tier.

Matuludi’s move to Sundowns follows growing interest in his performances with Polokwane City, also known as Rise and Shine. The Pretoria club had emerged as the leading contenders for the defender after reports that they had won the race for his signature.
