Kofi Amoako to miss Hamburg’s match against RB Leipzig

Hamburger SV will be without Kofi Amoako for Sunday’s difficult away match against RB Leipzig.

The midfielder has fallen ill and is therefore unavailable to head coach Merlin Polzin for the Bundesliga fixture.

“Kofi Amoako has been affected by illness,” Polzin explained during his pre-match press conference. The coach also confirmed that the 19-year-old will not recover in time to travel with the squad. “He has no possibility of coming with us,” Polzin added.

Amoako’s absence removes another midfield option for Hamburg as they prepare to face one of the league’s most demanding opponents. The youngster has made two senior appearances during his career and will now have to wait for another opportunity to contribute.

Despite the setback, Polzin provided a more positive update on the rest of his squad. Apart from Amoako, Sebastian Bornauw and Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit, the remaining HSV players have trained fully and are available for selection.

That leaves Hamburg with a largely healthy group for the trip to Leipzig, although the coaching staff must still decide how to replace the unavailable players. Amoako’s recovery timeline has not been specified, meaning his return will depend on how quickly he overcomes the illness.

The midfielder will now remain in Hamburg while his teammates travel for Sunday’s contest.
