David Akintola: Nigeria winger joins Omonia Nicosia from Hull City

Nigeria winger David Akintola has joined Omonia Nicosia from Hull City, bringing his time in English football to an end with an immediate move to the Cyprus League.

The 30-year-old right winger completed the switch on 10 September 2026 after one season with Hull. Akintola arrived at the English club from Rizespor in August 2025 on a free transfer and made one appearance in the EFL Cup during the 2026-27 campaign.

Akintola becomes part of an Omonia side he already knows, having previously spent time at the Cypriot club on loan from Midtjylland during the 2019-20 season. That spell came after he had joined the Danish club from Norwegian side Rosenborg, also on a temporary deal.

The move continues a career that has included clubs in Denmark, Norway, Turkey, England and Cyprus. Akintola began his European career with Midtjylland’s youth setup after joining from Nigeria’s FC Ebedei in January 2014. He became a Danish youth champion with Midtjylland Under-19s in 2015.

He later had loan spells with Thisted FC, Jerv and Haugesund before moving to Rosenborg in 2019. His first permanent transfer away from Midtjylland came in July 2021, when he joined Adana Demirspor for €1m. He subsequently moved to Rizespor in February 2024 before signing for Hull the following year.

A right-footed attacker, Akintola’s preferred position is on the right wing. He was born in Oyo, Nigeria, and stands 1.78m tall. His market value was listed at €1m at the time of the move, while his highest recorded valuation was €2.6m.

At Hull, Akintola did not feature in the Premier League during the opening matches of the 2026-27 season. His move to Omonia gives him a return to Cyprus and marks the latest stage of a career built across several European leagues.

Akintola has signed for Omonia Nicosia on a contract running until 31 May 2028.
