Ousmane Dembélé joins France’s Champions League greats after record-breaking PSG double

Ousmane Dembélé scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League title defence with victory over Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes.

The France international opened the scoring in the 16th minute after reacting quickest to Nuno Mendes’ effort that came back off the post.

Dembélé then struck again seven minutes later to take his Champions League tally to 30 goals and move ahead of France and Juventus legend David Trezeguet in the competition’s all-time scoring rankings.

Dembélé strikes twice for PSG

PSG took control of the game when Dembélé followed up Mendes’ effort to put the European champions in front.

The forward was soon on target again, scoring in the 23rd minute to double his side’s advantage and underline his importance to the French champions.

The brace took Dembélé to 30 Champions League goals, moving him into sixth place among French players to have scored in the competition.

Trezeguet record surpassed

Dembélé’s second goal saw him move beyond Trezeguet, who finished his Champions League career with 29 goals.

He now sits just behind the leading French goalscorers in the history of the competition, with the ranking headed by former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Dembélé needs just one more goal to move into outright fifth place and leave Trezeguet behind.

The PSG forward’s latest milestone adds to what has been an impressive period for him, while his goals have given the reigning European champions an ideal start to their campaign to retain the Champions League trophy.
