Marwan Attia promises Al Ahly improvement after Al Mokawloon draw

Al Ahly midfielder Marwan Attia has promised supporters that the club’s results will improve after their first setback of the Egyptian Premier League season, a 1-1 draw with Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

The two sides met on Wednesday evening in the fourth round of the league, with Al Ahly forced to settle for a point after falling behind in the first half.

Al Mokawloon took the lead in the 39th minute when Islam Gaber converted a penalty. Al Ahly responded after the interval, with Ahmed Sayed Zizo equalising in the 58th minute.

Speaking to On Sport after the match, Attia said Al Ahly had controlled much of the contest, particularly after half-time.

“We dominated the match, especially in the second half, and we managed to score one goal but failed to score another,” he said.

The midfielder acknowledged that the result was disappointing for the reigning side but insisted there was plenty of time remaining in the competition.

“A draw is a negative result for us. The league is still long, and we promise the fans that the results will improve in the coming matches,” Attia added.

Attia also stressed his personal commitment to Al Ahly and said the players were determined not to leave the pitch defeated.

“I give everything I have on the pitch, and none of us wants to leave the field having lost,” he said.

Despite Al Ahly’s failure to take all three points, Attia was named player of the match between Al Mokawloon Al Arab and Al Ahly.

The draw moved Al Ahly to 10 points from their opening four league matches. They remain level on points with الزمالك, while the result marked the first time Al Ahly had dropped points in the league this season.

Al Mokawloon moved to four points and occupy 13th place in the table.

The result also allowed Pyramids to move clear at the top of the league standings. Pyramids now lead on their own with 12 points.

Al Ahly’s failure to defeat Al Mokawloon means they missed the chance to keep pace with the leaders, although Attia underlined that the campaign is still at an early stage. His comments reflected the club’s determination to recover quickly, with the midfielder promising supporters that better results would follow in the matches ahead.

For now, Al Ahly have 10 points, level with الزمالك, while Pyramids sit two points clear at the summit. Al Mokawloon’s point leaves them on four points in 13th place after four rounds.
