Spartak Varna sign Guinea-Bissau and Portugal midfielder Edson Silva from Botev Plovdiv on loan

Spartak Varna have signed 25-year-old defensive midfielder Edson Silva from Bulgarian rivals Botev Plovdiv on loan, completing a move between two clubs in the efbet Liga.

Silva’s transfer was completed on 8 September, keeping him in Bulgaria’s top division while changing his club within the same competition. He leaves Botev Plovdiv for Spartak Varna after the two sides agreed a loan move.

The midfielder is eligible to represent both Guinea-Bissau and Portugal. His dual nationality adds an international dimension to a domestic transfer that sees him remain in Bulgarian football.

Silva’s listed position is defensive midfield, a role that places him at the centre of the pitch and distinguishes his profile within Spartak Varna’s squad. At 25, he joins the club with senior playing experience at the level of the efbet Liga, although no appearance or performance figures are attached to the transfer.

The move also represents a direct switch between clubs competing in the same league rather than a move abroad or a change of division. Silva remains with a Bulgarian top-flight side, while Spartak Varna become his new club and Botev Plovdiv his former team.

His market value is listed at €250,000, although the transfer information identifies the deal as a loan and does not provide a separate fee for the move. The valuation therefore offers a reference point for the player’s status, but it is not the cost of the loan.

For Spartak Varna, the arrival adds a recognised defensive midfielder to their squad. For Botev Plovdiv, the agreement sees Silva temporarily leave the club while remaining in the same domestic league, allowing his next competitive chapter to continue in Bulgaria.

The transfer does not involve a permanent change of registration: Silva has joined Spartak Varna on loan from Botev Plovdiv. His new club, nationality, position and league have all been established as part of the completed move.

Silva’s switch to Spartak Varna was completed on 8 September, with the midfielder moving from Botev Plovdiv on loan.
