Egypt winger Mahmoud Trezeguet ruled out of AFCON 2027 qualifiers after injury setback

Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has been ruled out of the Pharaohs’ upcoming training camp after suffering an injury while playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh.

The experienced winger picked up the injury during Al-Riyadh’s league clash against Al-Khaleej following a strong challenge from Al-Khaleej defender Boubacar Kouyate in the 12th minute.

Trezeguet was forced to leave the game after suffering what has been described as a severe muscle strain, with the injury expected to keep him sidelined for close to a month.

The setback comes at an unfortunate time for the 31-year-old, who was expected to be part of Egypt’s squad for their upcoming international assignments.

Trezeguet’s absence will also leave the Pharaohs without one of their most experienced attacking players as head coach prepares his squad for the next stage of the team’s campaign.

Egypt’s upcoming training camp will feature matches against Angola and South Africa as the Pharaohs continue their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The national team will now have to cope without Trezeguet, while the Al-Riyadh winger focuses on his rehabilitation and recovery.

His expected one-month absence means Egypt will need to find alternatives in attack, with the technical team hoping that Trezeguet can make a full recovery and return to action for both club and country as soon as possible.
