Malik Pimpong misses Eintracht Frankfurt training through illness

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Malik Pimpong has missed Wednesday’s training session through illness, placing his involvement in this weekend’s away Bundesliga fixture against Mainz in doubt.

Frankfurt confirmed the 18-year-old was unavailable during its latest squad update, although the club did not provide a timeframe for his return.

It remains unclear whether Pimpong will recover in time to resume training later this week. His progress will be monitored closely, with Frankfurt unlikely to make a decision on his availability until his condition improves and he can safely return to group work.

The setback comes as the young striker continues to build his profile in German football. Pimpong began his development in FC Midtjylland’s academy and enjoyed an exceptional 2025-26 campaign, finishing as the U19 league’s leading scorer with 20 goals in 26 appearances.

A right-footed forward, Pimpong is valued for his movement, direct running, and threat around goal. His style has earned comparisons with France international Hugo Ekitike, another attacker known for combining athleticism with sharp finishing.

For now, though, Pimpong’s sole focus will be regaining full health. Frankfurt will hope he can quickly rejoin preparations and continue competing for opportunities in the senior setup as the season gathers pace.
