Morena Ramoreboli joins Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana coaching team

Morena Ramoreboli has been appointed as Pitso Mosimane’s new assistant coach, completing the Bafana Bafana technical team ahead of South Africa’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed that Ramoreboli will leave his position as head coach of the Botswana senior men’s national team, The Zebras, to join the South Africa set-up.

His appointment follows Helman Mkhalele’s departure and means Mosimane now has a new assistant as Bafana Bafana prepare for their next major qualification campaign.

The move was announced jointly by SAFA and the Botswana Football Association (BFA), who described it as a reflection of the close footballing relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Botswana Football Association (BFA) would like to announce that Coach Morena Ramoreboli will leave his position as Head Coach of the Botswana Senior Men’s National Team, The Zebras, to join the Bafana Bafana technical team as Assistant Coach to Head Coach Pitso Mosimane, ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign,” the statement read.

The two associations said the transition would give Ramoreboli the opportunity to continue his coaching career at the highest level of African football.

They also acknowledged his contribution during his time in charge of Botswana and wished him success as he begins his new role with Bafana Bafana.

Ramoreboli has experience of international football and has worked in both the South African and Botswana football environments. SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan welcomed his return to the national-team set-up and said the coach had earned the opportunity through his progress and achievements.

“We are delighted to welcome Morena Ramoreboli back into the Bafana Bafana environment. He has earned this opportunity through his achievements and his consistent growth as a coach over many years,” Jordan Said.

Jordaan highlighted Ramoreboli’s understanding of the South African game and the wider African football landscape, while also pointing to his ability to develop players and build competitive teams.

“Morena knows South African football, understands African football and has demonstrated that he can build competitive teams, develop players and deliver results in challenging circumstances.

“His experience in Botswana has added another important dimension to his coaching career. We believe his qualities will complement those of Coach Pitso Mosimane and strengthen the Bafana Bafana technical team as we begin the journey towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.”

Ramoreboli’s move brings his spell as Botswana head coach to an end and places him alongside Mosimane as South Africa’s preparations begin for the 2027 AFCON qualification process.

SAFA and the BFA said the appointment strengthened the footballing links between the neighbouring nations, while Bafana Bafana will now move forward with their completed technical team under Mosimane.
