Ouaddou and Ngwenya claim August Betway Premiership awards

Orlando Pirates manager Abdeslam Ouaddou has been named coach of the month for August, while AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has received the player of the month award after a prolific start to the season.

Ouaddou led the reigning Betway Premiership champions to three wins and one draw during August, helping Pirates begin their title defence unbeaten.

The Buccaneers’ results gave them a perfect start to their campaign as they began the new season seeking to retain the league title.

Ngwenya was recognised after scoring five goals in four matches for AmaZulu. His performances have taken him to the top of the competition’s scoring charts and helped the Durban club move into fourth place in the table.

The 23-year-old Zimbabwe international was selected ahead of TS Galaxy forward Victor Letsoalo and Orlando Pirates defender Lebone Seema for the monthly player award.

Ngwenya’s form has made him one of the standout performers of the opening stages of the season, with his goals providing a significant contribution to AmaZulu’s early position in the standings.

Brayan Leon wins goal award

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Brayan Leon claimed the goal of the month prize for August after producing a clinical volley in his side’s 3-2 victory over AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The effort was chosen ahead of strong competition from Sundowns team-mate Teboho Mokoena, whose free-kick came in the same match, and Vincent Pule’s impressive strike for Siwelele against TS Galaxy.

The monthly awards therefore recognise achievements by a coach, a player and a goalscorer from different parts of the Betway Premiership, with Ouaddou, Ngwenya and Leon receiving the August honours.

They were not the only recipients of awards during the month. The popular Betway S’bonise & Win campaign is continuing to reward supporters during the new season.
