Morocco U20 World Cup winner Taha Majni joins Crystal Palace from Union Touarga

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Moroccan defender Taha Majni from Botola Pro side Union Touarga, with the teenager initially joining the English Premier League club’s Under-21 squad.

Majni arrives in England with valuable first-team experience despite his young age, having made 17 senior appearances for Union Touarga.

The defender was also part of Morocco’s Under-20 squad that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup, adding international success to an impressive start to his career.

Senior experience behind Palace move

Majni made 13 starts for Union Touarga during the 2025-26 campaign, gaining regular experience in Morocco’s top division before securing his move to England.

Rather than immediately competing for a place in Crystal Palace’s senior squad, the young defender will continue his development with the club’s Under-21 side.

However, his exposure to first-team football in the Botola Pro could give him a strong foundation as he adapts to the demands of English football.

World Cup success boosts Majni’s profile

The teenager’s move follows a breakthrough period at international level with Morocco.

Majni was part of the Young Atlas Lions squad that lifted the Fifa Under-20 World Cup, underlining the strength of a new generation of Moroccan talent emerging onto the global stage.

His arrival at Crystal Palace represents another opportunity for a member of that successful Moroccan youth side to continue developing in European football.

Union Touarga’s growing European connections

Majni’s departure also highlights Union Touarga’s growing reputation as a platform for young Moroccan players seeking opportunities abroad.

Several players from the Botola Pro club have attracted interest from European teams during the current transfer window.

Moroccan forward Tawfik Bentayeb recently joined Belgian club Anderlecht, while midfielder Adam Baallal signed his first professional contract with French side Saint-Étienne.

Majni now becomes the latest Union Touarga player to take his career to Europe, with Crystal Palace offering him the opportunity to continue his development within the English football system.
