Bertrand Traore joins Wolverhampton on two-year deal

Bertrand Traore has officially joined Wolverhampton on a contract covering the next two seasons, bringing an end to uncertainty over the Burkina Faso international’s next club.

The forward’s move to the Wolves opens a new chapter in his career after his departure from Sunderland. Traore’s second half of the season was disrupted, most notably by an injury suffered while representing the Etalons against Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Despite that setback, the winger has retained a strong reputation because of the experience he has built during a career that has included spells with Chelsea, Ajax Amsterdam, Olympique Lyonnais and Aston Villa. His return to full fitness has now allowed him to complete the move to Wolverhampton and focus on the next stage of his career.

The agreement was reached after negotiations involving Traore’s brother and agent, Dr David Traore of Mistra Management. The two-year deal gives Wolverhampton an experienced attacking player as the club works towards its objective of returning to the Premier League.

Wolverhampton are currently competing in the Championship, with promotion back to England’s top flight their stated ambition. Traore will therefore arrive at a club focused on an immediate push for the Premier League, while bringing the benefit of experience gained at several prominent European clubs.

The 30-year-old will also be reunited with fellow Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga, who plays in defence for the Wolves. The presence of a compatriot in the squad is expected to help Traore settle into his new surroundings and quickly adapt to his new team.

For Traore, the move provides an opportunity to begin again after a difficult period affected by injury. Having recovered, the Etalons captain joins Wolverhampton with the aim of contributing both his technical ability and his experience to the club’s project.

His arrival also resolves the question of where he would continue his career following his exit from Sunderland. Wolverhampton have secured his services for the next two seasons, while Traore now turns his attention to helping the club achieve its goal of promotion from the Championship.
