Rivers United players get bonus

Rivers United players and officials have been rewarded with cash bonuses following the club’s impressive start to the 2026/27 season.

The Pride of Rivers reportedly received a ₦2 million bonus after beginning their Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Plateau United.

Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Chris Green, rewarded the team with ₦1 million for each goal scored in the opening-day victory.

The financial reward comes as recognition of the team’s strong start and the importance of getting their domestic campaign off to a positive beginning.

Rivers United have also received another financial boost following their performance in the CAF Champions League.

The Port Harcourt-based club reportedly earned an additional $2,000 after holding Ivorian side FC San Pedro to a draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie.

The result has left Rivers United with everything to play for in the second leg, with the Nigerian side now looking to complete the job and secure progression in Africa’s premier club competition.

The Pride of Rivers will host FC San Pedro at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Sunday, where they will be targeting a victory in front of their supporters.

The club will hope the financial incentives and strong start can provide additional motivation as they compete on both the domestic and continental fronts.

With Rivers United already receiving recognition for their performances, attention will now turn to the crucial second leg against FC San Pedro, where a win would represent another significant step in their CAF Champions League campaign.
