Rice promises red hair makeover if Arsenal defend Premier League crown

Declan Rice has promised to add red streaks to his hair if Arsenal successfully retain the Premier League title this season.

The England midfielder played a key role in helping the Gunners win the league last season, securing Arsenal’s first championship since 2004. Under manager Mikel Arteta, the London club are aiming to repeat that achievement and defend their title after making a strong start to the 2026-27 campaign with victories in their opening two matches.

Rice, 27, has already taken on a demanding schedule. He represented England during their run to the later stages of the most recent World Cup in North America this summer, but still started both of Arsenal’s opening league fixtures.

He made the pledge during a meeting with a group of young Arsenal supporters. One child asked whether Rice would be willing to dye his hair red and white if the team won the title again.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, Rice smiled and replied: “I’ll make a deal with you… I’ll put red streaks in my hair.”

The youngster accepted the offer, prompting a light-hearted exchange that appeared to put the midfielder at ease. Rice then added, laughing: “Deal, I’m very excited.”

The moment quickly attracted attention among Arsenal supporters on social media. Many fans were reminded of former club great Freddie Ljungberg, whose distinctive red hairstyle became closely associated with his successful spell at Arsenal.

Other supporters jokingly called on the current team to finish the job and win the championship so they can see Rice adopt his promised new look.

Arsenal’s early-season form has given the midfielder’s pledge extra significance, although the club still face a long campaign in their attempt to remain champions. Rice’s contribution was central to last season’s title success, and his continued involvement has been notable given the physical demands of his international commitments.

The promise has therefore become an entertaining talking point around Arsenal’s title defence, while also reflecting the confidence surrounding the club after their unbeaten start. For now, Rice’s red streaks remain conditional on Arsenal completing another successful Premier League campaign.
