Kaizer Chiefs boss Fernando Da Cruz rules out further signings this transfer window

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz says he is satisfied with his squad and does not expect the club to make any more signings before the Betway Premiership transfer window closes.

Chiefs have been active in the current window, bringing in players to add depth in several areas of the team. However, despite supporters calling for further high-profile additions, Da Cruz believes his squad-building work is complete.

The Soweto club strengthened their defence with the arrivals of 28-year-old goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and 27-year-old defender Thabo Moloisane.

They also added 24-year-old Tanzanian international Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko in midfield, while Langelihle Phili and Faiz Abrahams joined to provide options on the wings. Khanyisa Mayo completed a permanent move to reinforce the attack.

Speaking at a pre-match news conference at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, Da Cruz said there was currently no need for the club to pursue another player.

“For the moment, I’m happy with the squad,” Da Cruz told journalists at the club’s base in Naturena.

“From my side, there is no interest in new players, but maybe if there is a good opportunity, the club will take a position on this good opportunity. But from my side, I repeat, I don’t request any new players. I’m very happy with our squad.”

The domestic registration window remains open until 17:00 on 21 September, giving Premier Soccer League clubs time to complete further business. Da Cruz’s comments, however, suggest Chiefs are unlikely to be involved unless an unexpected opportunity emerges.

The club’s immediate focus is Sunday’s Betway Premiership meeting with Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30.

Kaizer Chiefs go into the match third in the league table, having collected eight points from their opening four fixtures. Victory would not move them above the current leaders, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who are both five points clear.

Siwelele FC are at the opposite end of the standings in 16th place. They have yet to win this season, drawing two and losing two of their first four matches.

The fixture will provide Da Cruz’s side with an opportunity to maintain their strong start to the campaign, while Siwelele will be seeking a first victory as they attempt to move away from the bottom of the Betway Premiership table.
