Siyanda Ndlovu reveals social media abuse after Sundowns switch

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Siyanda Ndlovu says he was insulted on social media after his proposed move to Orlando Pirates collapsed and he subsequently joined Masandawana.

The 23-year-old had travelled to Gauteng intending to complete a move to the Buccaneers. However, that transfer fell through after Sundowns intervened, and Ndlovu eventually finalised his switch to the club at Chloorkop.

The change of destination prompted a strong reaction from some supporters. Ndlovu said he received numerous messages on Instagram from unhappy fans, including personal insults over his decision to join Sundowns.

Despite the criticism, the attacker insists the abuse has not affected him. He says he has remained focused on his football and accepts that the events surrounding the transfer cannot now be changed.

“There’s nothing wrong between me [and Pirates],” said Ndlovu during the interview with Victor Molefe on Ukhozi FM.

“But the way they spoke to me on social media. I was getting messages on my Instagram, insulting me.

“But then I’m strong and I’m focusing on what I’m doing, where I am. What happened cannot be changed anymore.”

Ndlovu’s comments come after an encouraging start to his career at Sundowns. He has attracted attention with his performances during his first six appearances for the club across all competitions.

The player’s move became a talking point after he had already made the journey to Gauteng with the intention of joining Orlando Pirates. Instead, the proposed transfer was hijacked by Sundowns, leading to his eventual arrival at Chloorkop.

Although the failed move created tension among some supporters, Ndlovu says there is no dispute between him and Orlando Pirates. His criticism was directed at the way certain fans responded to his decision on social media rather than at the club itself.

He has chosen to concentrate on his new team and the opportunity to establish himself at Sundowns. His early performances across six matches have helped draw attention to his progress since completing the transfer.

The abuse he described has not changed his position. Ndlovu said he is mentally strong enough to deal with the reaction and believes there is little value in dwelling on a decision that has already been made.
