Martin Demichelis leaves Christopher Nkunku start decision open ahead of Bremen clash

RB Leipzig head coach Martin Demichelis has left Christopher Nkunku’s starting status open ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at Werder Bremen.

The 28-year-old forward, who returned to Leipzig this summer, has been training with the full squad and impressed the coaching staff with his progress over the past week.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Demichelis highlighted Nkunku’s growing comfort since arriving two weeks ago. “Nkunku has been here for two weeks. He has found his peace, knows the city, is more relaxed and has taken a step forward this week,” the Argentine said.

When asked whether Nkunku is ready for a first start, Demichelis responded cautiously. “He is training with the full group and is doing well. We will see if he plays from the beginning or not. I believe he is ready.”

The final decision will depend on Friday’s session and a direct conversation with the player. “I will speak with him tomorrow during training. We will see how he feels. That is very important to me,” Demichelis added.

Nkunku’s potential inclusion comes as Leipzig prepare to face Bremen in their second league fixture of the season. His availability offers Demichelis additional attacking flexibility, though the coach insists fitness and feeling will dictate the lineup.
