Five-star Edo Queens set up Champions League qualifying final

Edo Queens FC moved into the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament for the UFOA-B zone with a commanding 5-1 victory over USFA at the Stade du 4-Aout in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.

The Nigerian side established a three-goal advantage before half-time and maintained control after the interval to complete a convincing semi-final win.

Esther Moses added to her earlier effort two minutes after the restart, scoring in the 47th minute to claim her second goal of the match. Aminat Folorunsho Ajoke then joined the attack as Edo Queens continued to put pressure on USFA and extended their advantage.

USFA did manage to find the net before the final whistle, with Wendkuuni Beremwidougou converting a free-kick in the 90th minute. The late goal reduced the margin but could not alter the outcome, with Edo Queens comfortably securing their place in Saturday’s final.

Edo Queens captain Valentine Uroko was named woman of the match after the performance.

The result sends Edo Queens into the decisive fixture of the UFOA-B qualifying tournament, where they will face either Ampem Darkoa Ladies or Dynamique FC. Those two teams are scheduled to meet in the other semi-final on Wednesday at 19:00 GMT.

The final will take place on Saturday, 5 September. Edo Queens will go into that match after a result that underlined their attacking strength, with five goals scored against USFA and a three-goal lead already established by the interval.

Their progress also means they are now one match away from winning the qualifying tournament and advancing from the UFOA-B zone in the competition for the CAF Women’s Champions League. The identity of their final opponents will be confirmed after the second semi-final.
