Nasser Mansi apologises to Zamalek fans after win over Petrojet

Nasser Mansi has apologised to Zamalek supporters after footage showed the striker entering the dressing room without celebrating with his team-mates and the club’s fans following the victory over Petrojet.

The Zamalek forward addressed the situation in an Instagram Story, saying his recent actions had not been intended to cause offence or convey any particular message.

“I would like to clarify that what appeared recently was not intended to mean anything.

“To the great Zamalek and this great institution, and to the great and loyal Zamalek fans, you have all my appreciation and respect.

“You are always the main reason for everything concerning Nasser Mansi.

“Before I was a player for the great Zamalek, I was a member of the great club’s supporters.

“Zamalek fans are always number one.”

Mansi’s message came after cameras captured him walking into the dressing room rather than joining his team-mates and the supporters in celebrations after the match.

The striker started Zamalek’s first two league matches of the season but was used as a substitute in the game against Petrojet. His appearance from the bench preceded the incident that prompted discussion among the club’s supporters.

In his statement, Mansi sought to underline his respect for Zamalek and its fanbase, stressing that his connection with the club began before he became a player.

The 25-year-old also made clear that his identity as a supporter had come before his professional role at the club. His comments were directed at reassuring fans that no disrespect had been intended by what they had seen after the match.

Zamalek are now preparing for their next continental assignment, when they will face AS Port Djibouti in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The tie will be the club’s next focus as they continue their season after the win over Petrojet. Mansi will hope to return to the starting line-up after beginning the campaign in the first XI before being introduced as a substitute in the latest match.

His apology places the emphasis on his longstanding relationship with Zamalek supporters, who he described as the most important part of the club.
