Al Masry part company with Emad El Nahhas as Ahmed Samy takes charge

Al Masry have officially ended Emad El Nahhas’ spell as manager, making him the first head coach to leave a club in the Egyptian Premier League this season.

The club thanked El Nahhas for his work and the period he spent in charge of the team. FilGoal.com had previously reported that Al Masry had decided to part company with the coach and appoint Ahmed Samy as his successor.

An agreement has been reached with Samy, who is expected to begin his new role by leading Al Masry’s training session at 20:00 on Wednesday.

Samy’s coaching staff will include Hossam Abdel Aal as general coach, Ahmed Fathy as assistant coach, Salah Amin as coach and Osama Abdelkarim as goalkeeping coach.

El Nahhas took over at Al Masry before the end of last season and guided the club to the Egypt Capital Cup, securing the first trophy to enter their cabinet since their Egypt Cup triumph in 1998.

His departure comes after Al Masry’s opening three league matches of the new campaign. They began with a 1-0 victory against Smouha, followed that with a 3-2 win over Al Mokawloon Al Arab, and then lost 1-0 to Pyramids FC.

Al Masry are preparing to face Petrojet on 7 September in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The club will also compete in the Egyptian Super Cup in December, entering the competition for only the second time in their history.

Samy had not started the current season as the head of a technical staff. His most recent managerial position was with Modern Sport during the previous campaign.

The appointment gives him the chance to return to management with a side that lifted silverware under El Nahhas last season. Al Masry’s decision to make a change so early in the campaign means El Nahhas becomes the first manager to leave his club in this season’s Egyptian Premier League.
