Daniel Tshilanda Kabongo returns to Union SG U23 after Sport Hasselt spell

DR Congo and Belgium centre-back Daniel Tshilanda Kabongo has joined Union SG U23 from Sport Hasselt, returning to the club he left in 2025.

Kabongo, 20, completed the move on 1 September 2026 and is registered with Union SG U23 in Belgium’s 1ste Nationale FFA. No transfer fee has been disclosed.

The right-footed defender began his latest spell at Sport Hasselt after leaving Union SG U23 on 1 July 2025 in a free transfer. He spent the 2025-26 season with the Challenger Pro League club before switching back to Union’s development side.

Kabongo had previously progressed through the Union Saint-Gilloise system, moving from Union SG’s youth team to the under-18 side in July 2022 before joining Union SG U23 a year later. His return therefore marks a continuation of his association with the club, where he had developed through its youth structure.

Standing 1.83m tall, Kabongo’s primary position is centre-back. He is eligible to represent both DR Congo and Belgium, while his listed club affiliation is Union Saint-Gilloise U23.

He has been part of a Union Saint-Gilloise side that won the Belgian Super Cup in the 2024-25 season. The achievement is recorded among his honours during his time connected with the club.

Union SG U23 are competing in the 1ste Nationale FFA during the 2026-27 campaign. Kabongo has been included in the squad during the opening stage of the season, although he had not made an appearance in the three possible league matches recorded before his move was completed.

His playing record at Sport Hasselt is associated with the Challenger Pro League, while his new club’s current competition is one level below that league. The switch brings the defender back into the Union setup after a season away.

Kabongo’s move was completed on 1 September 2026, and he is now a Union SG U23 player.
