Mustafa Shobeir agrees new Al Ahly deal worth £25m a year

Al Ahly goalkeeper Mustafa Shobeir has agreed to extend his contract with the Egyptian club for two seasons beyond the current campaign, with the new agreement set to keep him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Financial details of the contract have been reported by FilGoal.com. Shobeir will earn an annual salary of 25m Egyptian pounds, with a further 10m pounds available in bonuses linked to winning trophies with Al Ahly.

The agreement also includes a commercial arrangement covering any advertisements secured by the goalkeeper for the club. Shobeir will receive 70% of the value of those deals, while Al Ahly will retain the remaining 30%, provided the advertisements do not conflict with the club’s existing sponsors.

The 26-year-old becomes the fourth Al Ahly player to renew his contract in recent weeks. He follows Imam Ashour, Marwan Attia and Omar Sayed Moawad in agreeing new terms with the club.

Shobeir has made 72 appearances for Al Ahly, keeping 39 clean sheets and conceding 46 goals during his time in the first team.

He has also established himself on the international stage with Egypt. Shobeir helped the national side reach the last 16 of the World Cup, where they were eliminated by Argentina after a 3-2 defeat.

The goalkeeper was praised for his performances during the tournament, particularly after saving two penalties in the group stage and knockout rounds. He denied Iran forward Mehdi Taremi from the spot during the group phase before stopping a penalty taken by Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the last-16 match.

Shobeir’s new contract represents a significant commitment from Al Ahly as the club continues to secure the futures of key members of its squad. The financial package combines a guaranteed annual salary with performance-related incentives, while also giving the goalkeeper a share of the value of suitable commercial opportunities.

His renewal follows the recent extensions agreed with Ashour, Attia and Sayed Moawad, making him the latest member of the squad to commit his future to Al Ahly beyond the current season.
