Aston Villa sign Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain

Aston Villa have announced the signing of Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year contract.

The Premier League club did not disclose the transfer fee, although reports have put the value of the deal at €55m. Paris Saint-Germain will also retain a 10% sell-on clause, meaning they will be entitled to a share of any future transfer fee received for the player.

Mbaye was promoted to Paris Saint-Germain’s first-team squad in the summer of 2025. He went on to make 42 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

The move to Villa brings the Senegal international to England after a period in which he collected major honours with the French club. During his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbaye won Ligue 1 twice, the UEFA Champions League twice, the Intercontinental Cup, the UEFA Super Cup twice and the Coupe de France once.

Villa have been particularly active in the current transfer window, with Mbaye becoming the latest addition to a squad that has also been strengthened by the arrivals of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alejandro Garnacho, Leon Goretzka, Modou Keba Cisse, Matteo Ruggeri, Zion Suzuki, Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi.

The transfer comes after a difficult start to the new campaign for Unai Emery’s side. Aston Villa opened the season with a 2-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, with Mbaye’s former club claiming victory in that meeting.

Villa then suffered further losses in their first two Premier League matches. They were beaten 4-0 by Brighton before losing 1-0 to Arsenal.

Mbaye’s arrival therefore adds another player to an Aston Villa squad that has undergone significant change during the current transfer market. His record at Paris Saint-Germain included 42 first-team appearances, four goals and four assists, while his honours list contains domestic, European and international club trophies.

Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to keep a 10% share of any future sale reflects the terms reported for the transfer, although Aston Villa have not confirmed the fee. The club’s announcement confirms only that Mbaye has signed a contract lasting five seasons.

The Senegal international now joins a Villa team seeking to recover from defeats in the UEFA Super Cup and their opening two Premier League fixtures. His former side, Paris Saint-Germain, was responsible for the first of those setbacks, while Brighton and Arsenal delivered the first league defeats of the season.
