Aston Villa sign Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain

Aston Villa have announced the signing of Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year contract.

The Premier League club did not disclose the transfer fee, although reports put the value of the deal at €55m. Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to have retained a 10% sell-on clause, meaning they would receive a share of any future transfer fee for the player.

Mbaye was promoted to Paris Saint-Germain’s first team in the summer of 2025. He made 42 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

During his time with Paris Saint-Germain, Mbaye won Ligue 1 twice and the UEFA Champions League twice. His honours also include the Intercontinental Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and one Coupe de France.

His move to Aston Villa is the latest addition to a busy transfer window for the club. Villa have also signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alejandro Garnacho, Leon Goretzka, Moudou Keba Cisse, Matteo Ruggeri, Zion Suzuki, Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi.

The announcement comes after a difficult start to the new season for Unai Emery’s side. Aston Villa began the campaign with a 2-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup.

They then lost 4-0 to Brighton in their opening Premier League match before suffering a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal in their second league fixture.

Mbaye’s arrival therefore adds to a squad that has already undergone significant change during the current transfer market. The Senegal international leaves Paris Saint-Germain after helping the club to a substantial collection of domestic and European honours, while Aston Villa look to strengthen after losing their opening three competitive matches of the season.

Aston Villa have not confirmed the financial details of the agreement, but the reported €55m fee would make Mbaye one of the major arrivals in their current recruitment programme. Paris Saint-Germain’s reported 10% share of any future sale would also give the French club a continuing financial interest in the player’s career at Villa.

The five-season contract means Mbaye is set to remain with Aston Villa through the next five campaigns, subject to the terms of the agreement announced by the club.
