Dortmund forward Samuele Inacio banned for two matches after red card

Samuele Inacio has been suspended for two matches after being sent off during Dortmund’s 2-0 victory over HSV in their opening Bundesliga game of the season.

The 18-year-old forward will miss Dortmund’s next two league fixtures after the German Football Association’s (DFB) sports court confirmed the punishment.

Inacio was dismissed in the 77th minute by referee Felix Zwayer, who showed the Italian midfielder a straight red card following a mistimed tackle on Albert Gronaek.

The decision means Inacio will not be available for Dortmund’s meeting with TSG Hoffenheim on 5 September or their fixture against SC Paderborn on 12 September.

The suspension follows an incident in the closing stages of Dortmund’s first Bundesliga match of the campaign. With the score at 2-0, Inacio caught Gronaek with a mistimed challenge, prompting Zwayer to take direct disciplinary action rather than issue a second yellow card.

A straight red card resulted in Inacio’s dismissal and left Dortmund to complete the match without the 18-year-old. The DFB sports court has since reviewed the incident and confirmed that the player must serve a two-match Bundesliga ban.

That ruling removes Inacio from consideration for Dortmund’s next two league games. His first unavailable fixture will be the match against TSG Hoffenheim on 5 September, followed by the meeting with SC Paderborn seven days later, on 12 September.

Dortmund began their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 win over HSV, but the victory was followed by the disciplinary setback involving Inacio. The forward’s red card is therefore the key consequence from the opening game as the club prepares for its next two scheduled league fixtures.

The DFB sports court’s decision applies to those two Bundesliga matches. Inacio will consequently have to sit out both matches before he is eligible to return for Dortmund’s subsequent league fixture.

For now, the confirmed suspension leaves Dortmund without the Italian midfielder for the games against TSG Hoffenheim and SC Paderborn. The punishment was issued after Zwayer’s 77th-minute dismissal, which came when Inacio caught Albert Gronaek with a mistimed tackle.

The next stage of Dortmund’s Bundesliga schedule is therefore clear: TSG Hoffenheim on 5 September and SC Paderborn on 12 September, with Inacio unavailable for both following the DFB sports court’s ruling.
