Zamalek provide update on Mohamed El Sayed ankle injury

Zamalek midfielder Mohamed El Sayed suffered an ankle sprain during his side’s 2-1 victory over Petrojet in the Premier League, the club’s medical department has confirmed.

El Sayed came on in the second half and scored Zamalek’s second goal before being forced to leave the field because of the injury. He was replaced by Abdallah El Said.

Mohamed Osama, head of the Zamalek first-team medical department, said the player had sustained a twisted ankle during the match.

The club’s medical and technical staff agreed to take El Sayed off as a precaution, with the decision made to protect him after he reported the problem.

Zamalek secured all three points at Cairo International Stadium after beating Petrojet 2-1 in the third round of the Premier League. The result moved Zamalek’s tally to seven points, leaving them second in the table.

Petrojet remain on one point and sit 17th.

Zamalek took the lead through Hossam Ashraf before El Sayed added the second goal after entering the match as a substitute. Petrojet scored once in response, but Zamalek held on to claim victory.

The match ended with concern for El Sayed, who had played a decisive role in securing the result before his ankle injury brought his involvement to an early conclusion. His replacement by Abdallah El Said allowed Zamalek to complete the game while avoiding unnecessary risk to the midfielder.

Osama’s update confirmed the nature of the injury but did not provide a timescale for El Sayed’s return. The player’s condition will therefore remain a matter for Zamalek’s medical staff as the club assesses the effects of the ankle sprain.

For Zamalek, the win provided an important boost in the early stages of the Premier League campaign. They now have seven points from their opening three matches and occupy second place, while Petrojet’s single point leaves them in 17th.
