Al Ahly welcome back Afsha and Mohamed Abdallah ahead of Smouha match
Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” and Mohamed Abdallah have returned to Al Ahly’s full team training after recovering from injuries, strengthening the squad ahead of Thursday’s Egyptian league meeting with Smouha.
The two first-team players took part in the evening session at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium in Gezira after being cleared by the club’s medical staff.
Al Ahly doctor Ahmed Gaballah said Afsha had recovered from pain in his adductor muscle. Mohamed Abdallah, meanwhile, had been dealing with an ankle problem. Gaballah confirmed that both players were fit and ready before they joined the group session.
Their return comes as Al Ahly resume preparations for their next league fixture. The team had been given Sunday off in line with the training programme set by the coaching staff, before returning to work ahead of the match against Smouha on Thursday evening.
The fixture will be Al Ahly’s third of the league campaign. The club began the season with a victory over Eastern Company, with Afsha scoring the winning goal in that opening-round match.
Al Ahly then continued their winning start by beating ZED 2-0 in the second round on Friday. Ashraf Bencherki and Taher Mohamed Taher scored the goals in that match, giving Al Ahly another three points before the squad’s return to training.
Afsha’s availability is particularly notable after he played a decisive role in the opening game of the season. His recovery from the adductor problem means he is back in contention as Al Ahly prepare to face Smouha, while Mohamed Abdallah has also completed his recovery from the ankle pain that had kept him out of full training.
Mohamed Abdallah returned to Al Ahly after spending last season on loan at Ceramica Cleopatra. His participation in the collective session marks his latest step back into the team’s preparations following that spell away from the club.
The medical clearance for both players was completed before they joined their team-mates, allowing the coaching staff to include them in the squad’s preparations for Thursday’s third-round fixture. Al Ahly will go into the match after securing two victories from their opening two league matches, first against Eastern Company and then against ZED.
The team’s return to training followed the planned day of rest on Sunday, with the squad now continuing its work at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium before the meeting with Smouha.
