Bradley Barcola joins Liverpool with Anfield move worth up to £123m

Liverpool have officially signed France forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth an initial £106m, with the transfer potentially rising to £123m if performance-related incentives are met.

Barcola, 23, has agreed a five-year contract with Liverpool and becomes the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history. Only Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle United for £125m last summer, has cost more.

The transfer represents a major addition to Liverpool’s attacking options and gives manager Andoni Iraola one of the most highly rated young forwards in European football. According to ESPN sources, the guaranteed fee is £106m, while the final value will depend on the fulfilment of agreed bonuses.

Barcola had been a long-term target for Liverpool and was determined to move to Anfield. The France international declined to consider alternative options during the summer because he wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain in search of more regular first-team football.

Barcola looking for greater opportunity

Although Barcola played an important part in Paris Saint-Germain’s recent success, the fierce competition for places in the club’s forward line made it increasingly difficult for him to secure a regular starting position.

The winger appeared in 49 matches last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists. He also made eight appearances for France at the World Cup, scoring three times.

During his time with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcola won the French league title and the UEFA Champions League in two successive seasons. He will now continue his career in the Premier League, where he hopes to establish himself as a key figure at Liverpool.

Barcola will wear the number 29 shirt at Anfield and said he was delighted to have completed the move.

“It’s a great honour to play for Liverpool. I’m very happy,” he told the club’s official website.

“It took a long time, but I’m very happy today because I’m playing for Liverpool, and all I want is to be on the pitch and play in the matches.”

He added: “I hope to achieve great things, first of all winning the Premier League, because it is one of my biggest dreams in life.”

Barcola said he also hoped to remain at Liverpool for many years.

“I want to achieve that and stay in this team for the long term, which is why I signed a long-term contract, and I hope I can do that,” he said.

The move makes Barcola Liverpool’s third permanent signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet. Ronald Araujo has also joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Liverpool are not expected to make further first-team signings before the transfer window closes, unless there is an unexpected departure. Manchester City are interested in signing Cody Gakpo, who plays on the left wing – the position Barcola prefers.

Barcola’s arrival therefore adds significant depth and competition to Liverpool’s attack, while also potentially affecting the club’s plans for the final days of the transfer window.
