Ampem Darkoa face FC Dynamique in WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying semi-final

Ampem Darkoa Ladies will face FC Dynamique in the semi-finals of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after producing a flawless group-stage campaign.

The Ghanaian champions booked top spot in Group B on Sunday with a 2-1 comeback victory over Nigeria’s Edo Queens, completing the group stage with three wins from three matches.

Their perfect record makes Ampem Darkoa the only team in the competition to have won every group game. They scored seven goals while conceding just once, underlining their strong start to the regional qualifiers.

Ampem Darkoa opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions ASEC Mimosas before dismantling AS GNN 4-0. They then recovered from going behind against Edo Queens to secure another important victory and finish on nine points.

FC Dynamique yet to score

Their semi-final opponents, FC Dynamique, head into the encounter in stark contrast to the Ghanaian champions.

The Togolese side are still searching for their first victory and first goal of the tournament after collecting just one point from their two Group A matches.

FC Dynamique suffered a 3-0 defeat to USFA before playing out a goalless draw against fellow Togolese outfit ASKO. Their struggles in front of goal will be a major concern ahead of a meeting with an Ampem Darkoa side that has displayed both attacking quality and defensive resilience.

Ampem Darkoa carry favourites tag

Milot Abena Pokuaa, captain Nancy Amoh, Patricia Adjei, veteran Priscilla Okyere and Gloria Adomako have emerged among Ampem Darkoa’s key performers during their impressive run.

Adomako has also scored the club’s first goal of the competition, adding to the attacking options available to the Ghanaian champions.

With their perfect group-stage record and FC Dynamique’s lack of goals and victories, Ampem Darkoa enter Wednesday’s encounter as clear favourites.

The semi-final will be played at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, September 2.

Victory would send Ampem Darkoa into the final, where they will meet either Burkina Faso champions USFA or Edo Queens for a place at the Women’s Champions League main tournament.
