Nantes close in on Monaco striker Oumar Konate as Mostafa Mohamed nears Konyaspor move

Nantes are in advanced negotiations with Monaco to sign Ivorian striker Oumar Konate on loan, with the French club preparing for the expected departure of Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed to Konyaspor.

Konyaspor are expected to announce Mohamed’s signing in the coming hours after the Nantes forward completed the second part of his medical examination in Turkey.

Transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Nantes are working to finalise a loan agreement for Konate. The player’s availability has opened the way for the proposed deal, with Nantes seeking a replacement for Mohamed before his move to the Turkish club is completed.

Mohamed arrived in the Turkish city of Konya early on Sunday to undergo the checks required ahead of his transfer. According to Turkish broadcaster HT, Konyaspor have agreed to sign him from Nantes for 750,000 euros, payable in three instalments.

The Egypt international passed his medical examinations without any problems and received final approval to join Konyaspor. He is expected to become eligible for the club after the departure of their striker Blaz Kramer.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Mohamed said: “I will not say anything now. I will respond on the pitch.”

He added: “I feel very comfortable. Konyaspor are a big team. I want to do my best for this club. That is all.”

Mohamed has one season remaining on his Nantes contract, which runs until the summer of 2027. His proposed move comes after a difficult start to the campaign in France, where he missed most of Nantes’ pre-season preparations after initially stopping training at the beginning of the season.

The forward later returned to work with Nantes’ reserve team but was absent for the club’s first three matches of the season.

Nantes were relegated to France’s second tier last season, increasing the likelihood of changes to their squad. The club are now attempting to secure Konate’s arrival as Mohamed prepares to leave.

Mohamed will continue his career in the Turkish league, where he previously played for Galatasaray before joining Nantes. He will also follow Egypt team-mate Mohamed Salah into Turkey after Salah moved to Trabzonspor.

The former Zamalek striker joined Nantes from Galatasaray for 6.5m euros three years ago. Since then, he has made 136 appearances for the French club and scored 29 goals.

Konyaspor’s agreement with Nantes remains subject to the final completion of the transfer process, while Nantes’ negotiations with Monaco over Konate’s loan are also being pursued as the club looks to fill the attacking vacancy created by Mohamed’s expected departure.
