Jamal Musiala set to miss Bayern Munich’s German Cup tie against Osnabruck

Jamal Musiala is expected to remain unavailable for Bayern Munich for several more days and is unlikely to feature against Osnabruck in the German Cup on Wednesday, according to Bild.

The Germany international missed the start of Bayern’s season after fainting twice during pre-season. All indications currently suggest he will not be included in the squad for the trip to Osnabruck, although the final decision is expected to be made on Tuesday before the team travels.

Musiala, his doctors and Bayern Munich’s management do not want to rush his recovery or put pressure on him to return prematurely. The player’s condition is being monitored on a daily basis, but the current situation points towards him missing Wednesday’s match.

Musiala explained his health diagnosis in a post on Instagram, saying: “I have been diagnosed with temporary fainting episodes, but they are easily treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction.”

He added: “These episodes can lead to a loss of consciousness, as happened to me in my matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim, and they seem frightening at first, but for me they are part of my everyday life.”

“I am receiving excellent medical care and I am very optimistic. Most importantly, there is no health risk,” he continued.

Musiala said his decision to continue playing had been made after discussions with medical specialists.

“After continuous consultation with the doctors, my personal wish was to take on this challenge and, after receiving approval from neurologists, the focus had to remain on what would help me recover in the best way,” he said.

“Simply to live my everyday life and play football normally, and I take responsibility for that,” he added.

Musiala concluded: “I hope you understand my situation better now, and I ask you to understand my wish to keep this matter within the circle of people close to me and the club.”

The Bayern midfielder left the club’s friendly against Heidenheim after appearing to suffer an injury. He went down in the 61st minute without contact from another player and was eventually taken off in the 69th minute after receiving treatment from Bayern’s medical staff.

The incident was the second time Musiala had collapsed, after he had also fallen during Bayern’s friendly against Leipzig.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl previously said the club was aware of Musiala’s medical condition but would not disclose details. He added that the player himself would explain the situation to supporters.
