A new address for Mohamed Salah as Yomra council backs street honour

Mohamed Salah is set to have the street outside his new home in Turkey named after him, after the municipal council in Yomra proposed honouring the Egyptian forward following his move to Trabzonspor.

Salah, who has recently joined Trabzonspor, is due to live on Selvi Street in the Kasustu neighbourhood, which is part of the Yomra district. Renovation work is still under way at the property and, according to Turkish website Haberler, the player is expected to move into the house soon.

The proposal to rename the street “Mohamed Salah Avenue” was put forward by Mustafa Bıyık, the mayor of Yomra. The municipal council is expected to vote on the change this week, with the formal renaming process set to begin after the decision is approved.

Bıyık said on X that the district was delighted that Salah would be living in the area.

“We are immensely happy that Mohamed Salah will live in our district,” he said.

“Salah is one of the most important signings, not only in the history of Trabzonspor, but also in the history of Turkish football. We feel a great sense of pride and happiness that a global football star of this stature will live in Yomra.”

The mayor also said Salah’s presence could increase the area’s commercial profile and strengthen its identity.

“Salah living in Yomra will also make a significant contribution to the commercial value and distinctive brand of our district,” he added. “Having a footballer of this level and worldwide fame in Yomra is something special for us. That is why we want to name the street where he will live after Salah and make this period a lasting part of Yomra’s history.”

In a further message shared online, Bıyık described Salah’s arrival as the biggest transfer in the history of Turkish football and said the council had already done what it could to make the tribute happen.

“We felt great pride that Mohamed Salah, the biggest transfer in the history of Turkish football, will live in our district,” he wrote. “With the council decision we will take this week, we will name the street where Salah will live ‘Mohamed Salah Avenue’. We did everything we could; now it is Salah’s turn.”

The proposed change would link Salah’s name directly with the neighbourhood where he is due to settle during his time with Trabzonspor. The club’s decision to bring in the Egyptian has been presented by Yomra officials as a major moment for both the team and Turkish football.

The council’s expected decision will determine whether Selvi Street officially becomes Mohamed Salah Avenue. The remaining administrative steps are expected to be completed once the vote has taken place.
